This year an estimated 18 million children will be affected by bullying. Every 7 minutes a child is bullied in a school playground. An epidemic of cyber bullying has inspired a whole new kind of cruelty among children. Every day, as many as 160,000 children stay home because they feel unsafe at school.
It’s the first term of a new school year and many parents are worried about their child being bullied at school. The best way to help your child is to install confidence and resilience via a martial arts program. Many parents feel martial arts will make their child more aggressive and more likely to be a bully when in fact we find the opposite is true. Children learn to be more confident and respectful of not only themselves but others too.
Role playing is a fantastic way to bully proof your child and the scenario based role paying in martial arts helps children deal with a multitude of situations. When a situation arises your child will know exactly what to do as they have experienced it before and know how to react.
The communication skills of body language and building rapport with people are effective anti bullying tactics taught in karate. The posture of standing strong with feet planted firmly on the ground, shoulders back and looking people in the eyes is practiced over and over and become second nature. Students learn to communicate with confidence and how to use rapport to diffuse a situation that could become physical.
Your child will learn self defense skills and an understanding of when it will be appropriate to use them. They will take away life skills and leadership lessons that will boost their confidence throughout their life.
